Some info from the event host, Rose-Mary Grady, a local Afro-Latina activist and educator.
"This event is a memorial hosted by the North Humboldt BIPOC community, for not only Breonna Taylor, but the countless Black and Brown people who are murdered by the police state. During this event we will have a moment of silence as well as a candlelight vigil where the community can partake in creating an altar space and memorial for the ones we have lost.
There will be an open mic where Black and Brown leaders in this community will share a song, spoken word or speech that they have created. This event is to amplify and center the experiences and voices of the Black and Brown community to cultivate healing and community relationships.
This event is also a conversation about the injustice system as it continues to cause harm to Black and Brown and Poor communities. I'm hoping as a community we can workshop the ways we see our community creating change and the ways we would like to see our community changing. As a member of the BIPOC community our safety, wellness, health, liberation, and joy is of the utmost importance to me. I hope you will join us in these conversations for action as we cultivate healing for our community. "
