HC Black Music and Arts Association Presents A Candle Light Vigil to honor Josiah Lawson, George Floyd, Corey Clark and the unspoken.

At the Humboldt County Court house Eureka, CA, August 9th, from 8pm-11pm.

So many lives have been lost to police brutality and negligence in our country. It has never been acceptable. Period.

There are protests and marches happening everywhere. There are people becoming more and more divided. We have a small community here, and sometimes we need to know we are not alone. There are people here who are willing to stand by one another, to support one another, and even stand in front of one another to protect our fellow BIPOC community members.

Our neighbors, friends, coworkers, family members, partners, professors, business owners, and so many more deserve to grieve in honor, dignity and respect.

This event is designed to stand in solidarity and support our community.

To the allies, we ask that you stand in solidarity with us to better understand what it is like to live day by day in fear of how more generational trauma will infect our lives, or how it will challenge our daily simplicities and rights. Stand with us and together we can surround the BIPOC community to protect them in their grief and sadness.

This is not about what we can say. It is about what we can do. It is about the example we set for our children and the future generations. To stand in solidarity is just the beginning of a very long road to change policies, laws and injustices served to BIPOC.

This is about listening and encouraging others to listen. It is not about silence. It is about becoming informed, awake and aware to our community and their challenges, all through the healing powers of the music and the arts.

This is our fourth protest of an ongoing movement. We call for protesting peacefully.

* Please show up as you would dressed at any memorial. I prefer to wear black, but some choose to wear bright colors or white.
* Bring candles, either battery powered (with extra batteries in case) We are asking and welcoming any candle donations as well.
* Bring a chair. We will not be marching.
* We will be standing apart in a line formation, and as our numbers grow, we can start to reach out through the city. This message of solidarity and strength in numbers can and will be seen through out the town as we gather.
* All who attend are required to wear a mask, if you don’t have one check in at the Humboldt Medical Group tent to pick one up for free, gloves are available too if needed. Practice socially distancing - stay 6 ft away from people and we encourage frequent handwashing with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
* Again Do Not Block The Streets. We are here to bring our community together. Our solidarity, singing and spoken words will be the example.
* This is a welcoming event for our children to mourn and see their community rise up. All are welcome. Their light shines brighter than any of us. This is why I will again explicitly state that this is a PEACEFUL demonstration.

We deserve to stand up and be ourselves; we deserve to be treated with equal rights; we deserve to be heard and valued and most importantly we deserve to be loved like all human kind.

This is a facilitated event, so if you would like to speak a spoken word, sing a song, you have to be on the list in order to do so. Please IM me if Interested.

The facilitator of the event is Valetta Molofsky Cultural Educator/ Artistic Director and Founder of HC Black Music and Arts Association (HCBMAA); I Celeste Kofi am her friend and sista, together we stand for our POC community and we will continue to create change here in Humboldt.

We need volunteers, if you can donate goodie bags, food, water, please reach out, I would love to hear from you, we could use your help.
