EUREKA, Calif. — Black Humboldt is hosting this year's Juneteenth celebration on Saturday at Halvorsen Park in Eureka.

There, various Black-owned businesses will be tabling throughout the day-long event. Black Humboldt aims o create employment and monetary opportunities for the local BIPOC community by hosting allowing those vendors to sell their products and by hosting organizations like the local Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter, which provides mentorship opportunities for Black youth.

"Not everyone celebrates July 4 as our day of freedom because we still had members of our community—a whole segment of our community—that was still enslaved. So Juneteenth is that opportunity to acknowledge all of out history—fractured and not, bring us together," Big Brothers Big Sisters of the North Coast Executive Director Florence Parks said.

This year's celebration will also feature live music, guest speakers, a pride tribute and a dance party. Children are invited to hand out in the 'Kidz' zone', where there will be various activities including a reading circle, painting, a showing of Black Panther and more.

The event begins at noon and will go until 10 p.m. The full schedule is available online.
